Holiday Dog Portraits - Fourth of July

Dogs are family too!

My dog gets his picture taken OFTEN. Every holiday (except maybe labor day), my pup gets ready for another fun game of "Pics for Treats." Sometimes we use the fabulous outdoor space with it's perfect lighting, and other times we create an indoor studio. It's SO fun, even my social media obsessed teenager joins in.

Are you ready to try this with your fur-baby?

All you need is:

  • Two small American flags

  • A Sheet or Two for the Background

  • 2-3 Lamps

  • A Short Table or Bench

  • Treats

Set up your background sheet. You can use painter's tape and tape it to the wall, clothes pin it up, or even hang it from your curtain rod. You'll have to think like your building a blanket fort for this one.

Place your short table or bench in front of your background. You can drape your sheet over the bench/table, or even use another sheet to cover the bench/table.

Place your two lamps at approximately a 45 degree angle from where your pup will be sitting. If there isn't enough light, you can place the third lamp behind your pup so it won't be visible on camera. This will provide what's called "back lighting" in the photography world.

Have your pup take his/her position on the table/bench and hook both American flags into their collar.

Using treats, coax your pup into sitting, staying, and moving their head around for different angles. Have fun practicing with your pup to get the exact picture you want. Sometimes your pup will even surprise you with the most amazing facial expressions!
